FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Farms in New York City may be few and far between, but that won’t keep one Queens group from their weekly doses of organic fruits and veggies straight from the fields this summer.

At the beginning of each harvest, members of Forest Hills Community Supported Agriculture buy into a subscription of fresh produce delivered weekly from Long Island farms throughout the season, and there’s still time to get in on this year’s haul. Continue Reading ›

Basement Remodel

Average cost$18,810

Why you should consider it: Having another room in the house undoubtedly adds value to a house, which means someone will pay more for your home when it comes time to put it on the market. Plus, basements are also often some of the biggest spaces in the house, which means your dream of having that pool table for parties can be a reality.

Bathroom Remodel

Average cost$9,348

Why you should consider it: Who doesn’t want to sit in a spankin’ new soaking tub at the end of a long day? The benefits to your daily life are one thing, but bathroom remodels provide some of the highest resale returns because buyers are also all about these types of little luxuries.

Multiple Room Remodels

Average cost$36,001

Why you should consider it: You can save a substantial amount of time and money by tackling multiple rooms at the same time. Since workers can cover a few projects at once, getting it all done in one big swoop increases the efficiency of the project and reduces your contractor costs.

Celebrating Local Champions Reception May 2nd

Celebrating Local Champions Reception

Our Annual Spring Event, one of the borough’s premiere events of the year, honors an outstanding leader in the community who has distinguished themselves in the worlds of community development and philanthropy.

This year we will be presenting the Local Champion Award to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Forest Hills Gardens. For more than 15 years, St. Luke parishioners have been organizing annual food and toy drives for the families in our Eviction Prevention program, and last year helped QCH to start and coordinate an evening food pantry.

We will also be presenting the Queens Community Builder award to Queenscapes founder, Adolfo Steve Vazquez, for his effort to unite neighbors of all backgrounds, embodying what is best about our borough. Queenscapes is a community based organization that utilizes photography and social media as platforms for social change in Queens.

Come by for an after-work, networking cocktail party. Socialize and enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and dessert.

The event benefits thousands of children, youth, adults, and seniors all over Queens.

TICKETS ARE $100 each.

Forest Hills Stadium Sets Improvements And Concert Schedule

Forest Hills Stadium plans to become a year-round venue and, for the first time in its 95-year history, install bathrooms with plumbing when the Queens stadium starts its season in June.

The improvements — including a new automat system that will allow concertgoers to purchase hot food from vending machines the way workers did in the Art Deco era — were unveiled by the stadium Monday along with a concert schedule that includes David Byrne, two concerts from The National and Maxwell’s concert for social justice.

“We’ve been working on this since we started here,” said Mike Luba, partner in Madison House Presents, the concert promoter at the stadium since 2013. “Real bathrooms — it’s part of the quality of the experience.”

Luba said that Forest Hills Stadium has reached a crossroads with its renovations this year. “We knew the place was magic,” he said. “Initially, we just wanted to be good stewards for what it is. We just wanted it to be safe and sound good. But thanks to the unwavering focus of a lot of people, it’s good now.” Continue Reading ›

But that should not be a deterrent, especially in the current market. Continue Reading ›
