Austin Street CTown To Close, Natural Market To Expand

The CTown grocery store on Austin Street will close and its storefront will be absorbed by the Natural Market next door, a C-Town employee has confirmed.

The CTown, which is located at 72-48 Austin St, will close this Sunday, the employee said. The space will then be renovated and incorporated into the Natural Market at 72-56 Austin St.

Natural Market, which has been located in Forest Hills for more than 30 years, specializes in organic food and other groceries. The company also operates a Natural Market location in Garden City, New York. 

CTown is a White Plains-based grocery store chain with 140 locations in the New York metropolitan area, according to the company’s website.

A FOREST SCHOOL OPENS IN KEW GARDENS

There’s a new daycare in Kew Gardens, and Forest Park is its classroom.

Kew Kids Forest School focuses on a nature-based program that encourages young children to embrace the outdoors while developing a multitude of skills.

The children-led curriculum incorporates cognitive development, language development, art, music, creativity, math and special activities into the exploration of Forest Park. Teachers serve as a guide that help the children explore further.

SLOWING THINGS DOWN A BIT…

Community Board 6 voted Thursday to give the Department of Transportation the “green light” to install several speed bumps on Austin Street between Ascan Avenue and Union Turnpike.

The speed bumps were recommended by Council Member Karen Koslowitz, and have since been approved by the DOT.

Locals will soon see the bumps on Austin Street between Ascan Avenue and 73rd Road; 73rdRoad and 75th Avenue; 75th Road and 76th Avenue; and 77th Avenue and 77th Road. Community Board 6 also voted to approve a speed bump on Booth Street between 65th Road and 66th Avenue. The last speed bump will be going up on Kessel Street on  74th Avenue.
