Jade Eatery and Lounge to Reopen After Closing in Midst of Station Square Renovations

An Asian Fusion restaurant in Forest Hills will reopen later this month after electing to close in the midst of renovations being made to Station Square, where the eatery is located.

Jade Eatery and Lounge, located at 1 Station Square, closed this past January due to the restoration of the historic area’s brick roadway hurting business.

The owners, which include Forest Hills native Irina Gottesman, her brother Sam Kandhorov, and their father Abram Kandhorov, said they were not made aware of the construction or how long it was going to take.

Gottesman said they tried to keep the restaurant open for as long as possible during construction, but around January, business was suffering and they decided to close.

“It was a really difficult decision to make,” Gottesman said. “We just couldn’t stay open but now that Station Square is opening up soon, we are looking forward to kind of a brand new launch.”

Gottesman said they are really hoping to have the restaurant reopen before the first Forest Hills Stadium concert event happens, which is on Saturday, May 25.

The establishment opened in 2006 and the owners believe their restaurant continues to fill a need that they noticed when they first opened.

“We decided to open Jade because we thought there was a void in the neighborhood at the time for a trendier place for dining,” Gottesman said. “We believe in this neighborhood and maintaining the close knit community.”

The 8,000 square foot location can seat 22 people outside, 140 people in the main dining room, 50 people at the bar, and 100 additional people in the back event room called the Dharma Lounge.

The changes patrons can expect to see with the restaurant’s reopening, according to Gottesman, include a sushi bar where people can see the rolls being made, as well as a greater focus on their bar and specialty cocktail menu.

A few of their specialty cocktails include the “Lychee Martini”, made with lychee infused vodka, orange liqueur, and lychee puree; their “Jadetini”, which includes Bacardi coconut rum, a citrus juice called yuzu, mango puree, topped with coconut shavings; as well as the “Blooming Lotus,” which includes fig infused vodka, elderflower liqueur, muddled cucumber, yuzu, and a fresh hibiscus syrup.

The Asian fusion location, complete with a Buddha overlooking the dining room koi pond, has popular dishes such as its Sushi Pizza, which has diced tuna and salmon, spicy mayo, crispy rice, scallions, and tobiko; Mongolian beef dish with scallions and onions; and their lollipop chicken, served with a cilantro garlic dip.

The restaurant will be open Monday through Thursday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 4 p.m. to 12 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays are open for lunch at 12 p.m. and close at 12 a.m.

Gottesman said they are considering opening for lunch on weekdays as well pending the amount of business they receive.
