A small neighborhood sanctuary with quick access to Manhattan, Kew Gardens embraces a young vibe with old world charm.
Kew Gardens was one of seven “garden communities” built in Queens between the late 19th century and 1950. Named after the Royal Botanic Gardens in England it is set amongst rolling hills with gently curving streets, tall trees and well landscaped streetscapes. Many of its large, elegant homes were built in the 1920s. Homes of English and Tudor styles still predominate many sections of the community together with larger pre-war apartments and more recently built co-operatives and condominiums.

Kew Gardens was laid out as a country getaway for weary city dwellers seeking tranquility from the hustle and bustle of city life. Today, people still find the neighborhoods of Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hills, and the surrounding communities a welcome respite and enjoy making this their home. Bordered by Forest Park, Kew Gardens’ residents enjoy what many Manhattanites lack, natural forestland and quiet spaces where they can bike, jog or walk year round. Forest Park, which is very well preserved, is the third largest park in Queens with horseback riding and hiking paths as well as playgrounds that are actively used by nearby residents.
Kew Gardens and its sister neighborhood Kew Gardens Hills enjoy easy access to all modes of transportation, including the E and F express subway lines that carry passengers to Manhattan in less than 30 minutes, LIRR service to Penn Station and all points east, as well easy to highways and both JFK and LGA airports.
As the county seat of government, Kew Gardens is an ethnically diverse community that mirrors the ethnic diversity of NYC with restaurants, food stores and houses of worship that reflect many cultures including Russian, Italian, Indian, Pakistani, Uzbek, Caribbean, Kosher and Arab traditions. Its many eateries, pubs, and cinemas make this vibrant Queens community an ideal combination of urban and suburban.
Kew Gardens is a great place to live! It maintains a small town flavor in the midst of one of the world's largest and busiest cities.
